The “Rav” Exposed as an Outright Liar!

by Rabbi Raphael Bearmant on כ"ג באלול ה'תשס"ט (September 12, 2009)

This past Shabbos night, at a very late hour, I lay on the floor learning the Holy Torah (why I learn laying on the floor is a subject for another post). I was next to a bookshelf and I took out an old notebook of mine. Inside I found a xeroxed copy of JB’s Hesped on his uncle, the Authentic Brisker Rav. As I skimmed through it I was impressed how somebody could get so much junk onto a page of paper. Such crazy ideas. It really read like a Breslov book written by some deranged Brisker.

Anyway, towards the end he says that his uncle wasn’t really “opposed” to Zionism and the Zionist State. Actually he was…(blah blah blah burp barf)  and explains the Brisker Rav’s lack of enthusiasm for Zionism and its State in cheap philosophical  rhetoric (which he absorbed in Berlin, apparently - while discovering his love for… whoops, sorry for bringing that up again).

This is an outright lieAnyone who knew the Brisker Rav knew his vehement disgust with Zionism and everything connected to it. Not only was the Brisker Rav opposed to Zionism, he was opposed to the Agudah’s ideology as well. To water down the Brisker Rav’s hatred towards anything Zionistic  is an outright lie that only a veteran impostor like JB would even dare to attempt to foist on his unsuspecting audience.

Does anyone know why JB’s son Chaim never got married. (He is presently at paid leave from YU for a couple of years so he can waist his time study about wine making in the middle ages… I hope he doesn’t get drunk…

“Anyone who knew the Brisker Rav knew his vehement disgust with Zionism and everything connected to it”.

Did you know the Brisker rov? It doesn’t seem that you’re qualified to argue with “JB” on this point. You definitely cannout use this as proof that he is a liar. Some people told you that the brisker rov held this and he said the brisker rov held that. You can say you think the other people’s version is more likely bit that doesn’t count as proof that JB is a liar.

I am quite sure that JBS knew very well the true stand of the Holy Brisker Rav, and that is exactly what makes him such an outright liar. As to how I Know what the authentic stand of the Brisker Rav, you are mistaken (very) in assuming that I have just picked this up from the wind.
Before going into details about the Bisker Rav’s opinion regarding Zionism, I ask you: If I prove to you that my assessment of his opinion is correct, what difference will it make in your life? What will you change about yourself? Empty debates are beyond the scope of this blog. So tell me what will be gained if I present my proofs to you? Will you put your money where your mouth is?

I saw elsewhere in a book about him (I grew up in a MO neighborhood) that he went with everything the Brisker Rav said except a few things, including Zionism. This seems to indicate that he did admit to Rav Soloveitchick being anti-zionist. Are one of these misquotes, or did something change? Because at times it seems like he honestly did believe he was doing what was necessary, and at other times… we know what was said other times. He and R’ Kook are sitll mysteries to me. May Moshiach come now, and the fogs of confusion finally be lifted.
