Hearken to Reb Chaim!

The (Authentic) Brisker Rav ZATZAL related the following anecdote about his father, the Holy Reb Chaim ZATZAL:

When he (the Brisker Rav) was a child, on Tisha BeAv, Reb Chaim saw him talking to another child in the Synagogue.

Reb Chaim asked him as to the subject of their conversation.

The Brisker Rav said that he related the famous Gemara in Gitin about the Churban.

Reb Chaim continued: “And what did the other boy say to you?”

His son said: That a certain “scholarly” work quotes this Gemarah with a different Girsa than that of the Gemara.

Immediately R’ Chaim raised his voice and said “You must know that this boy is an epikorus, It is forbidden to stand in his 4 Amos, and his wine is forbidden…

It looks obvious that Reb Chaim saw things that many others overlooked. Baruch Hashem we have Authentic Gedolei Yisroel!
