The Authentic Am-Yisroel

by Rabbi Raphael Bearmant on June 24, 2009

Did you know that Solomon Shechter, the founder of the Jewish Theological Cemetery, believed in a people of Israel made up of all religious ideologies which he called “The Catholic Israel”? (Afar LePumey!). Well, if that isn’t revealing, hey man, nothing is.

We know all too well what became of Shechter’s “Israel” – at his Rabbinic institution, which now ordains women “Rabbis” as well as gays and other lowlifes. (I heard one of their first gay graduates formed a congregation on the lower west side of Manhattan called “Gay Avek” with its own private cemetery named “Gay in Der Ert”).

Well enough of false and retarded definitions of the Jewish people. Now let us harkon to the poetic words of that great Authentic Jewish Historian, Rabbi Isaac HaLevi Rabinovitz ZATZAL (Author of the famous historical work “Doros HaRishonim”  and one of the founders of the Agudas Yisroel organization, friend and confidante of the Great Reb Chaim Brisker ZATZAL):

“Only G-D fearing Jews are members of the People of Israel. They alone and only they. Because G-D and the Torah and The People of Israel are one entity. Even if Heaven forbid, there would remain in the world only ten G-D fearing Jews, one small Minyan, that group, and that group alone is “Am Yisroel”. Even if they were isolated in some far-away wilderness, that is the Holy Dwelling place of Klal Yisroel!”

We plan to present more quotes from this great Authentic Rabbinical Authority in future, G-D willing.

Worth mentioning that The “Re-constructionist” College is on “Church Road” in Philadelphia! Seems like they were tuned into Schechter.

I agree with your characterization of Shechter, who did nto wear a yarmulke even in his office. When R. Eliezer Silver came to the USA, he visited Schechter to see if there was a possibility of being employed in his “yeshiva”. When he saw Schechter’s mane of hair and no yarmulke, he realized that this place was not for him.

However, the term catholic is a technical theological term and should not be confused with “Catholic”, which is a name for the religion.

Thank you for this comment.

I *also* realize that this term was meant in a technical way, however the fact that Schechter could use such a term even as as technical one, in my opinion, is very revealing. I have a friend, a Baal Tshuvah, whose last name was “Himler”. He changed it to “Hillel” when he became frum. Get what I mean…

I liked your comment about his hair.

Unfortunately, I happen to know the darker sides of almost all the great “scholars” of JTS. Your hair would stand on end. Lieberman, Adler, Finkelstein, Ginzburg, all had real awful skeletons in their closets. Maybe we’ll do a post about this sometime
